The Russians and the Americans

In your opinion, how do you think the Russian withdrawal effected the course of the war?
How do you think the US involvement effected the course of the war?

  1. Russia's withdrawal made the Germans feel relieved because a huge army is out of their way. It also played a small role in the United States entering because before, they were hesitant to join because they didn't want to be allies with Russia. The US's involvement provided a great advantage to the Allies because now, they have more fresh troops.

    1. Actually, if you look at the timing, the US entered the war before Russia left.

  2. After the russians left the war, the allies became weak but then the US joined in and they had powerful military which helped the allies.

    2. Indeed, the Russian's withdrawal left the allies vulnerable. It allowed the Germans to attack the Western Front in full force, using all of their resources at once. Something Germany did not have the luxury to do, due to the fighting of wars on both ends. In my opinion, Russia's withdrawal led to the American troops to travel overseas to help aid Britain and France.
The US's involvement helped end the stalemate. It was basically a battle between new fresh troops and old exhausted troops. It left Germany weak, alone and inadequate to remain fighting the war.

    3. Given the outcome of the war, one wonders how much difference Russia was really making.
Your assessment of Germany is a good one.

  3. The withdrawal of Russia was not that effective because they were weak. Except, riots and strikes from Russia spread to Germany and Austria making them fall. It also encouraged the central powers and gave them a spiritual boost to win the war. These two were indirect affects. The US's involvement lead the allies to win because of their contribution in troops, financial support, and new equipment's.

  4. Russia's withdrawal Enabled the Central powers to shift their Eastern troops to the west. Thus, more force against the allies. However, Russia wasn't a big part of the war effort.

It also allowed Wilson to enter the war. One of the reasons he didn't join it was that he didn't support the Russian czar.
US's large population and many resources tipped the balance and allowed the Allied Powers to win the war soon after the US entered.

  5. By withdrawing from the war, Russia allowed Germany and the other Axis Powers to pull their troops out of the Eastern Front and refocus them on fighting the French and the British. This meant more pressure on the Allies, however this actually turned out as a benefit for them. The Allies worked much more closely together to establish a well-coordinated and effective plan, that makes them successful in the end.
The US's coming into the war was an even greater advantage for the Allies because of all those fresh men coming in at the rate of 1000's per day. This not only a poses a threat to the Germans but also increases the morale of the Allied fighters leading them to a well earned victory.

  6. The withdrawal of Russia left the allies with less soldiers on their side. This encouraged the central powers to send their troops to the west which created more pressure on the allies. The war would've been much longer ifthe US didn't join. One of the significant reasons of the allies' victory is the US involvement and assistant.

  7. When the Russia joined in the war , they didnt effect a lot since they were weak in militarism just the fact that their number of soliders was big. If the US didnt join , the central powers could've won but since the numbers of soliders started increasing in the Allies , it weakend the Central powers which ended them losing.

  8. WW1was a stalemate until The U.S got into the war. When U.S entered the war most of the countries were exhausted. Americans had new soldiers arriving to fight with the allies which improved their strength. If the U.S didn't enter the war, the war would've lasted longer than it did.
The Russian withdrawal allowed The central powers to shift their troops from eastern front to western. It also made U.S get into the war, before Russia getting out of the war U.S didn't want to enter the war because they didn't want to be allies with Russia.

  9. Russia was one of the first countries to join the allies, them withdrawing affected much that it weakened the allies. Russia was a strong country because it had a huge population which meant more troops for the allies. And most importantly it meant that there will be no more troops at the eastern from so the central powers would find it easy to fight the eastern front. US involvement affected the war that it actually helped the allies fight the central powers, because already the US were angry of the Zimmerman note that was sent by Germany, so it was a chance for the US to defeat them.

  10. I think by the Russians withdrawing from the war, it made the Germans more anxious to once and for all end the war with a victory. The Germans were so anxious to to end the war on the Western front, now that they no longer had to worry about Russia, that they resumed warfare in the sea and that eventually caused the U.S. to join the war. I think the U.S.'s involvement really sped up the war and made the bloody stalemate finally come to an end. The Allies and the Central Powers were obviously becoming weaker with every battle that dragged out, and the U.S.'s involvement introduced fresh soldiers that had more energy to fight and finally end the war. -Sarah Almarzooqi

  11. As russia was one of the countries to join the allies, Without Russia the Allies were very weak, but then the U.S came in with their strong naval forces. This boosted the strength of the Allies. which helped the allies.

  12. Russia's withdrawal from the war made the Allies weaker. This allowed the axis powers to focus more on the French and British. This elevated the pressure on the Allies. This enabled the Allies to work more closely together to create a well-thought plan.
The entrance of US into the ww1 was a big advantage for the Allies. As the soldiers from US were fresh and had more energy and strength as compared to the soldiers that were already present in the war. This caused a massive threat to the Germans and this lead to their victory.

  13. Russia withdrawing from the war wasnt effective since they were weak ,but the Central powers had to shift their Eastern troops to the west creating more force on allies .

US joining the war was a huge advantage for the allies because they had fresh strong new soliders . It scared germany and they eventaully lost against the allies .

  14. With Russia withdrawing from the war, the allies have been affected greatly because they lost an important ally. With Russia in the war, the central powers were forced to fight on both Western and Eastern fronts, meaning they had to split their troops. So Russia's withdrawal gave the central powers the chance to get all their troops on one side and it increased their chance of winning the war.

The United States' entry in the war gave the allies a great advantage because they arrived with fresh troops and a strong navy and it tripped the balance since both sides had weary troops. More supplies and food was provided for the allies after the Americans got involved. Their entry in the war broke the stalemate and led to the Allies' victory.

  15. Russia's withdrawal from the war actually helped the central powers, because instead of getting their soldiers and armies ready to fight two sides in the war, it helped them ease the formation and preparation of troops to find one side. Since it helped the central powers, it all comes down to leaving the allies in great danger - since Russia was an ally.

When the Russians withdrew from the war - used war as an excuse for the economic problems that occurred BEFORE the war - the US came to the rescue. It had strong navies and armies, and they were ready to fight. They had good weapons and helped strengthen the Allies after the Central Powers gained power from Russia's withdrawal. The US provided food, goods, and supplies to the Allies which all resulted to Allies success.

  16. Russian soldiers were poorly equipped, poorly led and had severe moral problems, so their withdrawal didn't do much since they weren't a major factor in the war. even though it enabled the Central powers to shift their Eastern troops to the west, it actually didn't help them, it maybe allowed Wilson to enter the war (one of the reasons he didn't join the war was because he didn't support tzar).
America's involvement shortened the war and gave Britain and France the extra incentive needed but in both cases the allies would've won the war.

  17. In my opinion, Russia's withdrawal didn't really affect the Allies since they were just a distraction to the Germans put at the Eastern Front by the Allies. When Russia withdrew from the war and the Eastern Front disappeared, this may have seemed like a good thing for the Central Powers but apparently it wasn't. I think that Britain and France knew all along that Russia would somehow leave the war, and by then they would've convinced the US to join. Looking back at the Zimmerman note incident, this opinion is proved right since the British only sent the US the Zimmerman note after many ships were sunk and after the US had armed all its merchant ships. When the US did join, which was a little before the Russians left, Britain and France were now sure of their victory, which did indeed happen. The US involvement not only frightened the Germans but it ended a long bloody war just by fresh troops, foods, and supplies.

  18. Russian withdrawal allowed the Germans to shift their Eastern front troops to join the Western front troops. So Germany didn't have to fight on both sides anymore. Russians withdrawal allowed Germans troops to mobilize and also allowed them to win the war. The allies lost a major ally. Which weakened the allies and strengthened the central powers. The US involvement allowed the allies to win and the Central powers to lose. If the US didn't get involved the war would've been longer and the Germans would have won.

  19. In my opinion, the Russians withdrawal from the war affected the allies allot. Although the Russians weren't really strong, they had a large number of troops. Which made the Germans worry and split out. When they left the war the Germans had a greater chance in winning and decided to fight together in one troop.
As for when the US joined the allies. It gave them have more hope in winning the war against Germany. They got a bigger troop and made the Germans shake. They deserve it :D.

  20. When Russia left the war it weakened the allies knowing it was a strong and big Allie, which caused the central powers to gain even more power. But when the US got involved in the allies it gave the allies more power since they were new and were fresh for war with troops and all which scared the Germans. Russia leaving made the eastern front line disappear, which made the germans to fight one side only.

  21. Russia left the war mainly, because of the revolutions they had and people were HUNGRY! Russia leaving means weaken the allies, and letting Germany win against Britain and France, because Germany will concentrate on the western front only. Right after that, the US came in to the war to "save the day" they fought against Germany. The participation of the US into the war raised the allies power cause the break the stalemate of trench warfare. I also honk the US involvement made the war end sooner.

  22. When Russia withdrew the allies were weakened. Russia had a huge population so it was a huge country and that helped the allies as it affected the number of troops. Germany took advantage of Russia leaving the war (there is no eastern front). US involvement helped the allies fight the central powers. The Us had a chance to defeat Germany because they were already angry about the Zimmerman note.

  23. The russian's withdrawal was because of the difficulties of supplying their army and their people were starving. Their withdrawal effected the war by making it easier for the germans whom were forced to split their army and fight in the western and eastern front. France and Britain were the only two left which led Germany into focusing on the western front only.At this point, the US joins the war with fresh troops who were ready to crush the germans with their new supplies and brought power to the allied side . France and Britain got a boost from the US and therefore the germans couldn't handle it and were defeated.

  24. The withdrawal of Russia easied the mission on Germany. It also made Turkey forced into war because of the Battle of Gallipoli. The withdrawal of Russia made allies lose troops. Once US got involved , fresh troops entered the war against the central powers.

  25. Russia's withdrawal was an advantage to the Germans since they'll have to focus on the west only. Meanwhile it was a disadvantage for the allies since Russia was huge and this decreased the number of soldiers that belonged to the allies (Weakened). The US involvement made the allies stronger and provided troops to the allies which was a key of defeating the central powers. The involvement was an advantage for US too because they took revenge from the Germans.

  26. Russia's withdrawal allowed the Germans to center all their forces on the western front. However the U.S decided to enter the war, but this problem rose before russia backed out.Russia's withdrawal though wasn't as favorable as thought because, yes it did have a large army but economically speaking it wasn't well off thus causing little military mobilization.
