Do you think the Treaty of Versailles was fair? Explain your response.

  1. I think the treaty of versailles was fair that it took advantage of all the destruction caused to the allies by Germany in order to make them pay and seek revenge. France had a lot of territories returned back to them because of many conflicts between them and Germany during the war. And it was based on President Wilson's 14 points which intact helped many of the countries who were imperialized gain their independence. And Germany were involved in nearly all of the battles against the allies, so they really fought a lot of countries resulting damage and loss of territories.

  2. The Treaty of Versailles was truly unfair. First, because Germany was not the country to start the war. It was Austria-Hungary who declared war on Serbia after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand and his wife, because of the alliance that Germany signed with Austria-Hungary it had to join and defend there allies. Second, because Germany had to pay all the damaged that had occurred when Austria-Hungary and the other countries did not pay anything. If the treaty was unfair to one country, then this treaty was unjust and unfair.

  3. In my opinion the treaty of Versailles was fair. Germany did most of the fighting in world war one and made war more complex so they deserve something bad in return. Germany caused large number of deaths and destroyed Europe therefore they should pay for all the damage. Germany caused many casualties and damage to the other countries in which they should pay for.I think if Germany won the war they would do even more to the allies. The treaty also returned all the colonies of Germany back to gain their independence which was fair to France and Britain.

  4. The treaty of Versailles was not fair to point in fingers only on Germany and it wasn't the only country involved in war, In fact other countries were involved. not just that but the treaty was written by the allies(Britain, US, and France).
Besides,Germany had also lost more than 2 million men in the war, and was also suffering from poverty, etc., as her economy had been severely crippled, by the war. Forced to give reparations which weakened it more. The treaty was not fair towards the German society, because they punished them while their leaders were the reason of the war.To a certain extent all these were not very fair to Germany. Indeed Britain and France wanted to weaken Germany. But there was one fair point towards Germany which is to restrict their military, so they won't rise again and start a war. So the treaty was not fair for Germany, but was fair enough for the allies.

  5. I think that the treaty of versailles was fair, since Germany caused most of the wars and violence. They deserve to pay back all they damaged. Germany destroyed most of Europe, and many casualties therefore it would be fair for them to give back what everyone lost because if them.

  6. I do and do not think the Treaty of Versailles was fair. Germany was not involved in the process of writing the treaty and were not really given a choice but to accept it. That was not fair in my opinion. They were given an ultimatum accept it or we'll invade. Germans were not allowed to oppose or change the terms of the treaty.
A guy is holding a gun to your head. He says, "Give me your money or I will shoot you." You give him the money, he goes away. I deserve to have a gun pointed at my head for I have the blood of 8M on my hands. I am not innocent. I committed wicked crimes against humanity. However, the punishments the allies finally executed were severe and very one-sided. The punishments were so heavy they broke Germany's back. The Rhineland was taken away by the French and Germany's colonies were given to France and Britain. Germans had to pay $32b for reparations, the submarines were supposed to be taken away but angry Germans sank them instead, and Germany's army was limited to 100k. The army was formed without an air force, tanks and submarines. French wanted Germany to pay. Post WWI was NOT easy for the Germans.
The Treaty of Versailles's terms were not fair, it punished only Germany when it wasn't only Germany fighting the war. Germany was not supposed to be solely blamed for the war. It was a WORLD war that ended by forcing ONE country to take full responsibility for it. Germany came to Austria-Hanguray's "aid" after Ferdinand's assassination, but where were the Austrian-Hungarians when Germany was being blamed? Nonetheless, in one way or another Germany had to be punished but in a different manner. So a treaty was bound to be written. If the case was approached in a less brutal manner instead of stripping-germany-away-of-the-money-it-doesn't-have technique EVERYTHING we now know as 'history' would be different.

  7. I personaly think that the treaty wasn't fair. The treaty was set in a way that would put the blame on Germany and the central powers eventhough they were not the only parties in war. Instead of paying to repair the damages caused by allies , they went pointing at Germany to pay while they gained more teritorry. Germany was not even there when the treaty was written.
As an example , the treaty limited Germany's army and risked their economy. Germany was left with NOTHING yet asked to pay millions of dollars. Effecting the economy effects the society as well. The less resources , the poorer the economy , the weaker is he society. Mainly Gernamy lost it's army , economy and society. On the other hand , the allies get to have the good economy, a happy society and huge teritirries.

  8. If you look at the treaty as a means of restoring peace to the world, I would say that the Treaty of Versailles was an unfair one. For starters, Germany wasn't even consulted during the writing of the treaty. They were forced to sign, even if they didn't agree to it and that just invalidates the whole point of the treaty. France and Britain just wanted to punish Germany severely. I agree to the restricting of German armies to prevent future wars, but then taking away their land thus their economy and then asking them to pay millions of dollars in reparations is quite harsh actually. We can see President Wilson trying to be lenient through his 14 points, but France and Britain refuse to be lenient even in the slightest way.The treaty would have been more effective if all these countries were to sit together, talk everything out and then take a decision to which everyone agrees to. By imposing peace this treaty has just paved the way for a second world war.

  9. Of course it was unfair because it made Germany pay reparation for the War, and punished it further by taking away all its colonies in Africa etc. The penalty of having to pay for the war, made Germany a very poor country which led to mass unemployment and roaring inflation which changed by the day. Germany did not start the war, but was ultimately blamed for it.

  10. The Treaty of Versailles was created to cripple Germany so that they couldn't start another war. But the treaty took away most of Germany's valuable assets and nationalism. However, Germany was the country that caused the most destruction to the war. So it demanded to be treated this way. I think it is not a fair treaty. At this point Germany was like a small annoying child. So something had to be done to stop the baby. But the people should have stopped it in a friendly way in order to not cause more destruction. Since they tortured the baby so much, with the excuse that is was annoying. The child eventually became more aggressive. Speaking of Germany, the Treaty restricted most of German's abilities. Thus, they started an even more destructive war: The World War II. Now, the treaty didn't benefit anyone. Germany become more powerful during the world war II and destroyed things even more.

  11. Yes, I think that the Treaty of Versailles was very fair to Germany. I think this because
Germany deserved something bad in return for starting the war. They are the ones who used the Schleiffen Plan.

  12. In my opinion, I think that The Treaty of Versailles was unfair because it completely blamed Germany for causing all the rising in conflict between the countries. Despite the fact that Germany caused most of the damage, The Treaty of Versailles should've blamed each country for the damage that it was responsible for. Germany was already in a very bad condition from the war, and The Treaty of Versailles worsened their condition by taking some of their lands and territories, limited their military strength, took most of their livestocks, and most importantly they forced them to pay for more than half of all the damages that were caused during the war.

  13. In my opinion the treaty of Versailles was fair because Germany started most of the fighting in world war one . Passing throuh belguim and attacking France to overtake paris , and sinking US boats. They deserve to pay back everything they damaged .

  14. I disagree with all those who said its fair, ITS UNFAIR. GERMANY DOESNT DESERVE ALL OF THIS , THEY DIDNT START THE WAR , I REPEAT THEY DIDNT. Its not Germay who started the war to blame , why didnt they blame Serbia? They're the ones who started the war by killing the Archduke not Germany. Why didnt they blame Russia ? Didnt they join the war to help Serbia? So did Germany to help Austria Hungary. They cant blame a country to run away from what they started, if Germany was in the Allies , they wouldnt even think of blaming them, they just want to take what they lost by blaming a strong country which became a weak, its so unfair.

  15. I think the Treaty of Versailles was unfair, since it was one of the main causes of World War 2!! If this treaty had addressed the issue of Germany's loss better, then surely the Germans wouldn't have wanted revenge and another war. In the first world war, Germany had already suffered a lot and they were in no shape to pay for reparations, but they still had to in many ways. As we saw in our sections of the treaty, Germany had to pay the Allies by weapons, submarines, land, natural resources, and even live stock!! Now of course, Germany played a big part in the war and they caused a lot of damage to the whole world, but they could not be punished to that extent. All Germany wanted to do after they payed their reparations was to GET REVENGE. They directly went to the Rhineland, which coincidentally was a land given to France due to the Treaty of Versailles. So this treaty was not only unfair, but it was also a major cause of the second world war, which started twenty years later!

  16. I think that the treaty of versailles was unfiar because it put all the blame on Germany. Germans were not allowed into the discussion of the treaty, they only had to accept the terms and sign.Germany wasn't the only country who caused all the damage, but had to pay for everything.i think the allies just wanted to make Germany very weak.If the treaty was fairly written then every country should have payed whatever they caused in the war, and it wouldn't have led to ww2.

  17. The Treaty of Versailles was definitely not fair for the Germans but the others were satisfied. I agree that it was fair in the term that it was a second chance to Germany. The allies could've occupied German's land but they didn't. Germans had to pay a huge amount of cost, but at least their land wasn't taken instead they gave them back the land that was taken from them during the war. In my opinion it was better to pay for few years than having your land taken from you forever.(Their situation could've been worse)
It wasn't fair in the term that German holds the blame for the entire war. Yes the Germans caused damages during the war, but other countries did too. In my opinion every country should pay back the damages they did.
Wether others think they deserved it or not isn't really relevant because in the end they were the ones who chose to fight during the war.

  18. The treaty of versailles was not fair to the Germans. All the allies were glad about the treaty because the Germans had to get rid of most of their armed forces, give up most land to France and pay a lot of money for the damage that they've done in war and they weren't even allowed to negotiate about the treaty. Germany is known for its militarism and pride and that is why Great Britain and France wanted to bring them down. All the great powers battled in every way possible just to be ahead of their enemies by each step. However, Germany received full blame because they had the strongest armed force and made unnecessary tensions that everybody feared and wanted them to weaken.

  19. I think the treaty was not fair for the Germans because they got blamed for everything, they had to pay and give some animals to other countries , and i think that the germans did like going to war but i don't think they started it and they should not be blamed for it. it was fair for all the countries except Germany because they had to pay for all the damage that happened during the war.

  20. The treaty wasn't fair at all.Let's just start off with the fact that Germany wasn't even included in the meeting when this treaty was drafted. As a result of this treaty Germany lost 13% of its land, 12% of its people, 48% of its iron resources, 15% of it agricultural production and 10% of it coal.On top of that Germans were asked to pay reparations and take all the blame. In what mind can a country pay back $33 billion after being stripped of so much.Yes Germany was to blame but only PARTLY...it takes one country to start a war between another country ,but a world war is called a world war because many were involved.

  21. I dont think it was fair because it put ALL the blame on Germany. Other Central Powers were responsible too. They didn't even acknowledged Germany's side or involved them in the writing of the treaty. It also didn't include Wilson's Fourteen Points. Germany was asked to pay billions of dollars and give a percentage of its land. I know France and Great Britain were mad and vengeful but the conditions hey placed were really harsh.

  22. In my opinion,Treaty of Versailles was unfair because it was bias against the Germans.Germans were blamed for causing the war when actually many countries were to blame for.The fact that Germans had to pay 32 b $ as reparations while other countries were part of the SAME WAR,yet paid nothing was ruthless.Germany also had to deliver tons of coals to France for destroying their coal mines;if treaty of Versailles was fair ,then why dint other countries pay for losses in battles fought? The treaty also controlled german's importation for 5 years and prevented it from building an army. Many restrictions were placed on Rhineland ,even though it was part of the German Empire. Treaty of Versailles was unfair such that peace was restored temporarily but the terms of treaty raged the German, causing them to take serious action.Had the treaty been fair, there wouldn't be a WW2.
