Okay this is scary being the first one to answer. The number of death was huge , almost 9 million soldiers, sailors etc died from this war from the technology. It lead to a huge change from the number of deaths , it increased a lot. By using technology, they turned the battle field into blood field. The technology develops so that the country have strong weapon in order to win the war no matter how huge the number of soldiers the country have.
Heavy machine guns made open field troop manoeuvres a massacre, resulting in trench warfare as the machine guns put favour on defence. Aircraft introduced strategic bombing to warfare. Artillery developments increased the accuracy and rate of fire of artillery. The development of the tank completely changed warfare forever. It allowed support weapons to be used in the attack again, countering the trench system. Advances in submarines meant they could actually be used as effective weapons. So, world war one is significant as it marks a change from the use of cavalry to the use of technology during war. This in turn had a great impact on the number of casualties as a result of the war and also helped the big fighting countries of this war to gain power and the victory.
A massive number of soldiers were killed in WW1 mainly because of the new unusual usage of technology. The result of it, leaders had to change their plans ,tactics, strategy, and method of fighting. planes were occasionally used for bombing, their most useful role was reconnaissance. Gas was used by both sides fighting in the First World War. The first few gas attacks used tear gas but from 1915 poisonous gases such as chlorine, phosgene and mustard gas started to be used. World War I also introduced machine guns, modern artillery and airplanes to the battlefield. Railroads made the supply of vast, stationary armies possible, and even the taxi cabs of Paris were employed to bring men to the front.
Anusha Khan Tanks, airplanes, machine guns, grenades, and chemical warfare were employed for the first time in World War 1. Because of technological advancements at this time in history warfare was changed because the much more efficient weapons made it much easier to kill the enemy and eliminated chivalry. Because of these new advancements such as tanks and machine guns casualties were much higher and trench warfare was introduced to keep soldiers safe while not in combat due to the ability to kill enemies from long distances.
Technology changed the nature of war by introducing terrifying weapons that caused an increase in death rates. These new kinds of weapons had the power to pass the enemy's trenches which was an obstacle to the soldiers. The air planes were used at the start of war to see the enemy's positions, The germans started the poison gas which was a gas that could blind or choke the soldiers. By the change of wind direction, the gas can go back straight to the ones who launched it. The poison gas was misused and could've been used by trapping the enemy in their trenches and then releasing it. Airplanes were dropping bombs and then the mechanics attached the machine guns to the planes. Tanks, machine guns, poison gas, air craft and submarines all made the war very difficult. Both sides's death rates increased because there was no smart strategy. The technology's were helpful but too many soldiers died.
Before World War I, battles did not consist of very complex weapons. Most of them just used close-range guns, bayonets and bombs. However, "The War To End All Wars" did not just cause the start of WWII, but it also caused advanced technology to surface.
Arms such as massive rifles, siege guns and tanks ruled No Man's Land. Air was penetrated by poison gas that caused horrible burns and blizzards. Aircrafts were also used to spy and drop bombs on enemy territory. U-boat submarines lurked in the seas and stealthily blew up other ships carrying goods and passengers.
These deadly weapons could easily wipe out thousands of soldiers as well as civilians. It is evident that new technology had a great impact on war because it covered even more grounds -- land, air. and water.
WW1 had new and strong weapons like machine guns, poisonous gas and war planes. The amount of death rate was much more in this war because enemies were able to shoot from very far distances, so soldiers had to dig trenches and stay there. Chemical warfare was first introduced in this war, poisonous gas killed and injured thousands of people. Submarines were used to attack and sink the enemies ships. Aircraft was first used in this war to to observe the position of the enemy.
Technology introduced many weapons which were used in world war 1. The weapons that were used are tanks, gases, submarines, aircraft ,machine gun and airplanes. The usage of machine gun and airplanes made transportation faster in war rather than walking which is slow. Technology also made war very long compared to wars before world war 1. The number of armies are larger. The number of deaths increased massively because of these weapons. Fatema mohammed 10A
In World War I, new technology made more horrible and more complex than ever before. Some of the technologies included the poison gas which Germany started using, caused blinder, chocking, or caused agonizing burns and blisters to people in the war. U-boats were used to sink and damage ships, zeppelins which were large gas filled balloons used to bomb other countries. Air crafts, tanks, and rifles. Theses weapons made it easier to kill the opposing side. During this war, everything has changed from the increase of deaths to new technologies.
The inventions of these effective technologies made other nations try their best to come up with their own better technologies to fight with, or things that will help in protecting the soldiers. For example when the Germans started using the poisoned gasses that burnt, blinded, choked, and obviously made people die, the other nations started covering their faces with masks and covering their full bodies in order to protect themselves. Technologies helped in developing the fight between nations. If we look at aircrafts for example it helped in observing the enemy's position. This made it easier to kill people but later on they used specific new weapons to destroy these aircrafts. These new technologies increased the death rate of many soldiers and civilians.
Technology made war much more deadly than it already was. Technology also made it easier to kill the enemies without having to face them directly. These factors increased the rate of death incredibly because physically fighting a person takes a lot of physical strength and when you think about it takes mental strength as we'll. I mean it's hard to kill another human being that has done nothing to you. Especially if you think about their families and the loss they would have to go through because of you. Technology was definitely an easy escape from the actual fighting and also an escape from the guilt you might feel after the war. Rawdha J 10A
Technology changed the nature of the war in a way that it was now more simple by being easier for one country to get rid of their enemies by the new weapons available, such as the tanks, submarines, machine guns, aircraft, and poison gas. But this of course, only caused the killing of more people and it was merely unjust. Ibtisam Nuhaily-10B
Old habits die hard, but that wasn’t the case in WW1.WW1 was referred to as just the “Great War” and the “War to End All Wars” (ironically since it started another world war). It brought about many changes in the lives of civilians and soldiers, but more importantly it changed the way warfare could be defined and predicted. New techniques and machinery were introduced. Nations wanted quicker, faster ways to attack. Examples of new technology developed in WW1 would be: Flame throwers, poison gas, tanks and machine guns. This technology was not only fast and accurate, but also allowed soldiers to attacked at a distance meaning that the soldiers didn’t see who they were killing face to face ,which would be a reason for why there were so many deaths and why there was little remorse when it came to killing in the battle field.
One of the saddest facts about World War I is that millions died needlessly because military and civilian leaders were slow to adapt their old-fashioned strategies and tactics to the new weapons of 1914. New technology made war more horrible and more complex than ever before. The United States and other countries felt the effects of the war for years afterwards.
The technology really changed the nature of the war. Machine guns; they could fire at longer distances and hit their targets accurately. Poison gas; the use of gas was quite brutal. And this led to the invention of gas masks. Aircrafts were first used in ww1.
The technology that was introduced in World War One changed the way countries fought and the tactics used to win the war. The technology and weaponry also increased the number of causalities and the death toll of the war because people could cover and takeover more area than ever before. Airplanes were used to observe enemy movement and would shoot poison filled balloons on the enemy. The airplanes were also equipped with machine guns and would be used when enemies confronted each other in the sky. Technology did not only change the outcome of the war, but also changed the nature of war. The technology introduced like tanks, machine guns, and submarines are still used and enhanced in war today. Once you look at the number of dead and wounded individuals in WWI compared to other previous wars, you might wonder why the the number of casualties in WWI are so much higher than other wars. Besides the fact that there were several countries around the world involved, WWI was the check point for the update of technology- mainly weapons. Guns with wide ranges made it easier to kill soldiers from farther distances, poisonous gas made it easier to wipe out a large number of people within minutes. Ages ago, William Prescott said to his soldiers "Don't fire unless you see the whites of their eyes." This statement no longer had any meaning as it became easier and easier to drop bombs from several miles away that killed several people and destroyed the land. Nevertheless, updated weapons made it easier to kill people you can't see, you never saw their eyes, all you saw was "enemies" with the same flesh and blood, but in different colored uniforms...
Since WW 1 new technology, the machine guns that were used it could take a load of lives. Because of the machine guns, soldiers had to "dig in" (dig trenches and stay there) to avoid the machine guns. as then the u-boats and the aircrafts, poison gas and more that the place was more bloody !

The poisonous gas was the most deadly of all. It was first brought up by the Germans. It would make the victims choke or even become blind. Sometimes the poisonous gas would go back to the people that set it because of the wind. Air crafts were used to spy on the enemies, too see their condition and make plans on how'd they be able to stack them. Some aircrafts would be sent to throw bombs to the enemies. Overall the new technology caused more damage and losses
